Hamurwa Needy Children Project
Hamurwa needy children project is working as a Community Based Organization project, in accordance with Kabale District Local Government. It was set to help the needy and orphans. These children need a lot of care and help. Akampurira Robert is the project Founder. Most families in this community live under the poverty line (less than 1US Dollar per day) - In this community most people are jobless, not educated and dont have enough land for settlement and cultivation.

There are currently 180 registered needy children under the care of HNCP. These children are between the ages of 2 - 15 years old. It is noted that in Uganda the loss of one parent is tantamount to orphanage. The loss of one or both parents typically causes severe limitations on the ability to generate income. In turn this has a significant, negative impact on the well-being and social mobility of the child.
A child that has lost one parent is referred to as a single orphan and a child that has lost both parents is referred to as a double orphan. Where possible orphans are brought under the care of a relative and this arrangement is facilitated and managed by HNCP.
HNCP does not currently produce or manufacture goods for sale. Indeed, HNCP does not have the means for production or manufacture of goods. HNCP does not currently have the capability to receive or process donations made in forms other than cash or a check. This limits the ability and reach of HNCP when seeking to generate revenue in support of its philanthropic endeavors.
We would like to start working crafts as means of income for the project and also connecting to some other organizations that already exist.
HNCP does not currently have the capacity to house the orphans in a building designated for the purpose of providing a dwelling for the children. They are housed amongst the community under the care of registered guardians. Typically this guardian is a relative.
HNCP does not currently have permanent accommodation for the purposes of conducting administration of the project. The orphans and needy children of Hamurwa live in very poor conditions. Most children do not sleep in a bed at night. Some children sleep on a mat on the floor and some children sleep directly on the floor.
It is considered that the provision of mattresses, beds and bedding will significantly improve the living conditions and ability to realize the benefits of attending school.
The Hamurwa area does not have infrastructure for electricity or town water.
We need to construct a classroom block which is budgeted to cost 300313100 Uganda shillings, but we still raising funds.
Diseases pose a significant threat to needy children of HNCP. AIDS is the underlying cause of many of the orphans across Africa.
Education programs are having a positive impact on the rate of HIV infections. This education reinforces the need for preventive health in response to the threat of vector-borne diseases such as malaria and transmittable diseases such as HIV / AIDS.
The provision of mosquito netting and education about family planning [i.e. safe sex] are key mitigation strategies in response to these problems. The volunteers conduct live-saving preventive-health education programmes to teach the HNCP children about environmental health, preventive medicine and family planning.
As described above all HNCP children are living significantly below the poverty line. As well as malnutrition an example of the impact of poverty is provided by Project Founder Mr Akampurira Robert.

Visit the Project:
If you are already travelling to Uganda or if you are thinking about planning some travel why not visit the project to see how the needy children live, where they go to school and maybe if you are lucky the children will do some traditional African dancing and singing for you!
We are located in south western Uganda kabala district hamurwa town council
Volunteer at the Project:
Volunteering at the project is a wonderful and rewarding way to contribute to the well being of the needy children of Hamurwa. You get to experience first hand the lives of the needy children and at the same time help them.
Write a Letter to a Needy Child:
There are so many ways to become engaged with the project. Writing a letter to a needy child helps it to understand that people around the world are interested in their well-being. The older children will be able to practice reading and writing English and may even be able to teach you some of their language about their communities, history and culture.
To begin corresponding with a needy child please contact the HNCP Project Director first to arrange a suitable needy child for you to correspond with. Where possible please also make a small donation to cover the cost of any return postage.
